Customize Your Morning Routine

Customizing your morning routine depends on your personal preferences, goals, and lifestyle. Here’s how to establish a routine based on your needs and preferences:

1. Identify Your Priorities

What are your reasons for establishing a morning routine in the first place? Why is it important to you? What do hope to accomplish as you perform certain activities on a consistent basis?

  • Health: If fitness or wellness is a priority, add exercise, stretching, or yoga.
  • Mental Clarity: Incorporate mindfulness, journaling, or reading.
  • Productivity: Focus on planning your day, setting goals, or doing a quick review of tasks.

2. Consider Your Schedule

  • If your mornings are busy, create a routine that’s brief but effective. Activities should provide you with the support you need while still fitting into the time frame you have established.

3. Determine Your Energy Levels

  • Some people can be defined as a ‘morning person’. You may be more energetic in the mornings or you could be on the opposite end and not be energetic at all. Establish your morning routine to your natural flow. If you’re not a morning person, keep activities gentle and gradually build momentum.

4. Experiment and Adjust

  • Try different activities to see what makes you operate optimally. What makes you the most productive and fulfilled? A morning routine should not seem like a set of chores that you have to accomplish. If you enjoy journaling more than reading, swap it. There are no specific activities that have to be included in your routine. It should be based on you. Change the length and order of activities based on how you feel and perform during the day.

5. Add Personal Elements

  • Customize based on personal enjoyment, such as reading, listening to podcasts, drinking a specific tea, or spending time outdoors.

6. Set a Realistic Routine

  • Start small and scale up. When you first start to establish your routine, begin with one activity that you perform consistently and then add additional ones as you remain consistent. Make sure your routine fits within the time you have available to prevent feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Again, your routine should not be tedious or feel like an assignment. Your routine should support you as a person and allow you to be proud of what you can accomplish for the remaining part of your day.
